Winners of the Vodafone Icons High
School Edition music reality show, Accra Academy, were presented with their
prizes at a ceremony last Thursday.
The prize package comprise of the
construction of a music studio complete with a band set, laptops with audio
editing software for music production, as well as fibre connectivity supply and
also a scholarship package for the 2015/2016 academic year.
The student band from Accra Academy
will also represent Ghana at the Global High School Musical Contest organised
by Vodafone in Turkey, later in the year.
Five other schools,-Osei Tutu,
Christian Methodist, Adisadel College, Presec Legon, and Opoku Ware, which made
it to the finals of the competition also received PA systems, shopping
vouchers, mobile phones, tablets and Vodafone souvenirs/hampers as consolation
prizes.
Making the presentation, the
Marketing Director of Vodafone Ghana, Agnes Emefa-Essah, said Vodafone was
committed to supporting the country’s art and cultural industry.
She said shows such as Icons and
Vodafone Ghana Music Awards have become avenues through which brands within the
country find expression adding that these shows have boosted the profile of the
country on the international scene.
“Vodafone Icons, for example, has
transformed budding talents for the past four years into celebrated stars;
raising the flag of Ghana high on the international stage.
“ Last year, Icons embraced another
innovative way to deliver the programme by appealing to talents in the Senior
High Schools. Our aim was to unearth and nurture young talents and groom them
to impact the entertainment industry,” she said.
She lauded the level of
participation and enthusiasm from both the public and participating
institutions in the competition.
